Environment Sensors

Environment Monitoring is an important function for facilities of all types including IT data centers, warehouses, schools, hospitals, offices, restaurants, farms, factories, zoos, museums and more. Maintaining a stable environment where equipment and/or products are housed is critical for their continued operation, protection and use. With this in mind, monitoring is typically needed on a continual basis. The ‘IT & Facilities Environment Monitoring’ market is arguably one of the fastest growing niches in the computer industry and yet surprisingly remains ‘under the radar’ of many IT and facilities managers… at least until disaster strikes.

In IT & facilities environment monitoring, there are seven primary threats that are consistently of the greatest concern. These include temperature, power, humidity, flood, smoke, air flow and room entry. Additional sensor types can be found for many purposes. The objective is to implement sensors that will meet the specific needs of your monitoring application, integrate them with an automated monitoring and alerting system and stay within the budget. AVTECH offers a variety of sensors and solutions to help you do just that.

Digital Active Power Sensor w/Temperature

Monitor temperature and active power status with AVTECH’s Digital Active Power w/Temperature Sensor. This patented, award winning sensor provides the real-time power status of any electric device by simply strapping it to any AC electrical cord. There is no need to unplug the device, modify the cord, or require an electrician to connect within a main panel, making it easier than ever to monitor any electric device. If the connected device draws more than 100W, the Active Power Sensor will detect this and show the current power status as ‘Active’. Additionally, this sensor provides real-time temperature values from -40° to 185° Fahrenheit and/or -40° to 85° Celsius. Accuracy is within + / – 2 C degrees.

Digital Temperature Sensor

Accuracy is within + / – 2 C degrees. The analog range is from 0 to 5 VDC. Accuracy is within + / – 0.075 volts.

Power Sensor

AVTECH’s Power Sensor provides real-time recognition of a power source going off or coming on at the outlet it is connected to. Common use is to monitor the power supply of a main, 3 phase, UPS or backup generator source.

Mini UPS & Power Sensor

AVTECH’s Mini Uninterruptible Power Supply & Power Outage Sensor is a unique sensor/UPS combination that detects loss of main power while providing seamless battery backup.

Flood Sensor w/8' Cable

AVTECH’s Flood Sensor with attached 8′ sensor cable is activated by liquid (i.e. water, fluid, etc.) making contact with the attached Flood Sensor Cable of any length. Once liquid is detected the Flood Sensor triggers an alarm condition allowing the Room Alert hardware, Device ManageR software and/or other monitoring application to send out alerts and/or take automatic corrective action.
AVTECH offers this sensor with lengths of 8′, 24′ and 50′.

Smoke Sensor w/Escape Light

AVTECH’s Smoke Sensor provides real-time recognition of smoke or fire and includes specially designed electronics that allow it to interface with Room Alert products as a switch sensor. Powered by one 9V Alkaline battery (included), this model has a bright ‘escape’ light and loud ‘buzzer’ that are triggered if the sensor is activated.

This is an instant ‘Plug & Play’ sensor via one of the switch sensor channels on the back of any compatible Room Alert ID box. Cable distance can be extended from the standard 25′ to approximately 900′ by using standard speaker wire, twisted pair or any reliable low voltage 2-wire cable.

Air Flow 1 (NC)

AVTECH’s Air Flow 1 Sensor (NC) provides real-time recognition of air flow stoppage. This Air Flow 1 Sensor (NC) is normally closed and includes a mounting clip and clamp. Typical use is to monitor continuous air flow in an HVAC duct, under a raised floor, or near a fan on a rack cabinet or important server. This sensor is equivalent to Stego Air Flow Switch #01300.0.

Air Flow 2 (NO)

AVTECH’s Air Flow 2 Sensor (NO) provides real-time recognition of air flow stoppage. This Air Flow 2 Sensor (NO) is normally open and includes a mounting clip and clamp. Typical use is to monitor continuous air flow in an HVAC duct, under a raised floor, or near a fan on a rack cabinet or important server. This sensor is equivalent to Stego Air Flow Switch #01300.1.

Room Entry Sensor

AVTECH’s Room Entry Sensor provides real-time recognition of a door or cabinet being open. Standard use is to mount the wired sensor to the frame of a door. Then, mount the matching actuator opposite of the sensor on the door itself. When the door opens, the two components separate and the sensor trips.

Motion Sensor

AVTECH’s Motion Detection Sensor is a movement sensing device specially equipped with additional electronics that allow it to interface with any compatible Room Alert ID box. The motion detection system is powered by a 12V DC Power Supply and is designed to detect movement up to 35′ away with a cone coverage of approximately 84 degrees wide.

Each AVTECH Motion Sensor is a movement sensing device specially equipped with additional electronics that allow it to interface with any compatible Room Alert ID box. The motion sensor is powered by a 12V DC power supply and is designed to detect movement up to 35′ away with a cone coverage of approximately 84 degrees wide.

Relay Switch Sensor

AVTECH’s Relay Switch Sensor allows low voltage devices to be turned on/off in response to an event going in or out of an alarm condition. The AVTECH Relay Switch Sensor can toggle up to 4 devices. It is compatible with AVTECH’s Room Alert 32W, 32E, 12E or 3E environment monitors Via AVTECH’s Light Tower & Relay Adapter (LTA). The Relay Switch Sensor is compatible with the Room Alert 4E via a direct connection. The 4 outputs on the Relay Switch Sensor can be individually controlled and activated directly from the Room Alert Web Interface or in response to an alarm condition.

Current Loop 1 Sensor (50A / 250A)

AVTECH’s Current Loop 1 Sensor  monitors the electrical current flowing through a single-phase powered cable. It outputs a signal of 0 to 5 VDC (volts of direct current), which your built-in or external Room Alert Analog Sensor Port then converts into an amp (A) reading. By pairing a Current Loop with your Room Alert monitor, you can easily determine the power consumption of an electrical appliance or device at your facility. The Current Loop can be easily moved to various appliances as needed and will help you monitor power consumption to determine if a power drop might be causing a problem or if an appliance is drawing too much power. The cost of electricity is one of the fastest growing costs and concerns for IT managers so knowing that a problem exists is the first step in resolving the problem.

Fuel Tank Level 1 (NC) / 2 (NO)

AVTECH’s Fuel Tank  monitors the rise and fall of fuel or other harsh liquids in a container (i.e. typically a large tank). The float switch and control weight are composed of chemically-resistant polypropylene; the 16′ cable is coated with rugged PVC. Because this sensor uses a dual-point switch and differential height between switch states, you can use just one sensor to monitor two levels… both high and low. Dimensions of the float switch are 6.1″ H x 6.7″ W. The control weight is 4″ H x 2.25″ W. The 16′ attached cable with PVC coating has a protection rating of IP67 and NEMA 6. The switch state differential range is a minimum of 10″ and a maximum of 50″.

Water Tank Level 1 (NC)/ 2 (NO)

AVTECH’s Water Tank Level 1 Sensor (NC) monitors the rise and fall of water in a container (i.e. typically a large tank). The float and control weight are composed of chemically-resistant polypropylene; the 16′ cable is coated with rugged PVC. Because this sensor uses a dual-point switch and differential height between switch states, you can use just one sensor to monitor two levels… both high and low.
